NEWS

01 May 08:

NEW VIDEO ADDED

Jeff Zachow took Darcy out to Rock River Kennels to train with Jeff Schwartz.

They made a lovely video while they were out there of Darcy doing two perfect retrieves, videographed by Kylie Jo Hirschy-Seivert.

The first retreive was a nice "dead" bird retrieve brought to hand in a timely fashion, and the second was a lovely flush and long mark retrieve, no easy task for a spaniel to mark that distance.

Enjoy

DARCY HUNTING - Quartering and a Set of Retrieves

16 March 08:

Darcy wins his SECOND UKC BEST IN SHOW and a Group 1 this past weekend with Handler Kylie Jo Hirschy-Seivert.

ALSO Ember took her first UKC Winners Bitch Points the same day, handled by Roberta Gregory.

Thanks to both Kylie and Roberta for all their hard work!

10 Feb 08:

Darcy attended his first show of 2008 with his American handler Kylie Jo Hirschy-Seivert. The show was theUKC Wisconsin Boston Terrier Association in Ixonia, WI under Judge Dean Spielogel. Darcy earned his first BEST IN SHOW today. I couldn't be more proud of him or of his talented handler.

Congrats to both of you, what a great start the new year.

DARCY DOES SPANIEL CLUB

For the second time I packed up my car early January and drove all the way down to King of Prussia, PA for America Spaniel Club's annual Flushing Spaniel Speciality.

We had a great time and got to see some very lovely Field Spaniels being exhibited. While we did not take breed (that honour went to fellow Canadian Linda St. Hilaire with her boy Lupin), Darcy made the top cut and showed his little heart out for our last show together as a team. Below is the video that was taken for at the show showcasing Darcy. Enjoy

29 Dec 07:

Elgora Kennel Club is the very last show of the year up here in Canada. It's the last chance for many dogs to to get those final points they may be missing. I almost did not go this year but was asked by another Field Spaniel owner to attend. I have to say I'm VERY glad he asked, because it was quite the finish to the year.

Darcy won BOB all three days and on the first day earned his last Group Placement of the year competing against the top dogs in the country. Way to go DARCY!!!

This was also Ember's last weekend out as a puppy, and she decided that she wasn't ending the year without a ribbon. Ember won Winner's Bitch on Saturday, and in addition back-to-back Best Puppy In Groups.

WD, WB, BOW, BPISS & New Champion - Fox River Field Spaniel Speciality

After a very interesting flight back from Waukesha, WI to attend  the Fox River Field Spaniel Speciality I have finally found all my missing luggage and have been able to sit down and write the latest news. The show was very pleasent and was run as smooth as could be by the organizers. It is always wonderful to see a large group of Field Spaniels together, especially as I had not been able to attend the National the month before.

Both Darcy and Ember had a very good weekend and I could NOT have possibly asked for better results. Darcy was once again expertly shown by his handler Kylie Jo Hirschy-Seivert to his third and final major. Darcy was awarded Winners Dog, Best of Winners, and his new AKC Championship. On top of this, the weekend before Kylie earned Darcy's UKC Championship and a Group 3rd in one weekend.

I stayed on little Ember and was overjoyed to earn Ember's first AKC points by winning Winner's Bitch and Best Puppy in Speciality Show. I was especially happy as there was very good competition in both Dog and Bitch classes, some of which had won the day before (like Darcy's lovely sister and littermate Georgianna). It should be noted that Reserve Winner's Bitch both days was Darcy's other sister Immy.

Even had we not won, the event was so well run with great raffle prizes, an enjoyable banquet, and lots of people to talk to about the best dogs in the world, Field Spaniels.

28 Oct 07:

This weekend the Field Spaniel Society of America held their National Speciality in Dixon, California.

Darcy was entered and travelled with his handler Kylie Jo Hirschy-Seivert. Darcy and Kylie had a great start to the weekend by winning their class at the National. They later went on to win Winners Dog and Best of Winners at BOTH of the National Trailor Shows. I couldn't be prouder of my boy and Kylie, and even more so as Darcy was out working on his Master Hunter in Wisconsin with Jeff Zachow only the weekend before. What a breed, what a dog!

Photos to come for both events.

DARCY'S FLYAWAY

2 Oct 07:

I'm a bit late in posting updates, but lots have happened since July.

For starters, breed history was made  at the Cornwall District Kennel Club, Aug 31-Sep 3. There were 4 Field Spaniels entered, including my two. Each day a different Field Spaniel took breed, AND took a group placement. Darcy walked away with a Group 4 under judge Roger Hartinger on Sunday.   Ember was far too young to beat the big boys, but she did look very proffesional strutting her stuff.

Then last week I took Darcy and Ember out to the Quebec Spaniel Specialty held at the Chomedy show in Laval, Quebec. While we had a hectic ride there, barely making it in time for our breed judging, Darcy walked away with another Group 4. Later that day during the Specialty, Ember decided it was time to shine and took Breed at the Specialty. The VERY next day Darcy seemed determined not to get sent back to the crates again, and won breed aswell as a Group 2. All in all a very exciting show.

31 July 07:

I packed up Darcy and Ember in the car and drove 14 hours to Waukesha Wisconsin to attend the supported entry there. We had an absolutely wonderful time and hope to return on a yearly basis.

Darcy took Winners Dog and Best of Winners on Monday under Judge Sandy Gelinas for his first American points, and Ember took Winners Bitch and Best of Opposite under the same judge. This weekend was her first official show, and she had a wonderful time in the ring.

23 July 07:

Darcy took another Group 3 this weekend smack dab in the middle of the summer circuit shows at Valley Kennel Club under judge David Marks. Darcy showed well during the entire circuit and made the cut under several judges. We had a great time doing these shows.

15 June 07:

This past week has been very busy for us as we spent most of the week training in the field and then going to a show on the weekend. Darcy needed to be reminded why he loves to hunt, but all it took was one bird and he was crying to get back out for more. Ember flushed her first quail and is now in love with hunting. The best part was... she retreived it to me. I can tell you this was not Darcy's initial thought on HIS first quail retreive... We couldn't have asked for a better first exposure to live birds.

The week ended with Darcy getting a GROUP 2 at the Kingston & District Kennel Club under judge Denise Cornelssen. Ember once again refused to be outdone, and walked into the Sanctioned Match like the little lady she is, and walked out with a GROUP 4. Well done to both Darcy and Ember.

02 June 07:

Another great weekend has gone by, although the hottest one to date. Darcy took yet another Group 4 on Saturday under judge Carmen Haller. In addition young Ember got another placement in the Sanctioned Match, with a Group 3. Both are resting at home now wondering when they get special treats for working so hard, and just happy that they'll be back in the field tomorrow doing some much needed hunt training.

25 May 07:  Despite the humidity of today's show, Darcy went out into the ring and gave it his all, gaining a Group 2 in the process under judge Richard Lake. Well Done Darcy!

Not to be outdone, his baby sister Ember entered her first show today in the Sanction match. Although only 4 months old, she won the group, and was best puppy in group. This feat was later put in its place by having Ember fall asleep in BIS, couldn't blame her one bit, I was about ready to join her.

11 May 07:  We started off Darcy's Canadian Show Season today at the Saamis Kennel Club in Alberta. The little guy did us all proud by earning a Group 4 under Judge Wayne Thompson his first day out. For someone who's been in the bushes hunting all spring with the field bred dogs, we think he did pretty darn good. Picture is on it's way.

29 Apr 07:  Today Darcy made history when he became the First Field Spaniel placed in a Field Trial during the Limit Stake at the Outaouais Valley Sporting Spaniel Club under Judges Alex Smith and Sean Hassett. Pemberley's Own Ch Winfarthing Pride & Prejudice CGN TDI TT (or Darcy as we know and love him ) placed First in the Limit stake against Field bred springers.

We have worked very hard with this goal in mind for a long time, but never really thought we'd make it. Thanks go out to Ed & Vera of Banin Upland Game Farm for all the hours they put in TRYING to train me to train my dog. If it wasn't for them, we wouldn't have gotten where we did.

Darcy is the first Field Spaniel to be Trialed in over 20 years, and is the first Show Champion Flushing Spaniel to place in a very, very long time (I'm still trying to find out if one ever has).  We are over the moon here, and will continue to work with Darcy in the field, as well as in the show ring.

6 Apr 07: Pemberley Field Spaniels welcomes it's first Liver Field Spaniel, Ember. She is a delightful young bitch who is outgoing and very attentive. Thanks go to breeders Gayle Pierce and Arlene Cohen of Argyle Kennels for letting me have this wonderful girl.

To add to the good news, Darcy received his tests back from OFA.

Cerf Eyes, Elbows, Heart and Patella are all rated "NORMAL"! And his hips garnered a nice rating of "Good". Darcy will be getting a special dinner for this.

10 Feb 07: In an attempt to help make "online history" happen, Darcy was entered into the first ever online Dog show held by Infodog Show Services. He received BOB under AKC Sporting judge David Swortwood, and a GROUP 1 under AKC Sporting judge Ms. Judy Manley. Although this is not a real show by any means, it was a great chance to showcase some rare breeds for the general showing public (the entries of such breeds as Curly Coated Retreivers were proof of this). We were happy to be a part of the online history. Here is a link to this unique dog show.

Infodog Virtual Show

31 Jan 07: This past month we attended American Spaniel Club and had a wonderful time talking with fellow Field Spaniel Fanciers. While the drive down caused a few nerve wracking moments, the show was a pleasure to watch, as were the many breed seminars offered that weekend. Darcy finished second in his class to a lovely mature male, Overlook's Nature Boy.

Obedience proved to be an adventure as Darcy decided he'd rather strut in the ring like a show dog then heel at my side. To his credit, he stayed with me for the entire excercise, but he was front and center, with me in his wake. He did not get a leg, but certainly had the time of his life in the ring.

We look foward to truly beginning the show season this March, until then we'll be continuing with our Flushing Spaniel Hunt training (this will also get the boys conditioned nicely for the ring).

10 Sept 06: DARCY IS FINISHED!This past Saturday under the Judge. Ms. Sandra Lex, Darcy finished his show championship in grand style. He is yet another Field Spaniel to finish with group placings, receiving a Group 2 at the Save the Children Show in Richmond, Ontario. It was a lovely weekend with a fellow rare spaniel (Cali the IWS), who also did well under Ms. Lex. Now Darcy can concentrate more on his field work, obedience titles, and of course his American Ch.

02 Sept 06: I just recently retruned from the Central Ontario Show circuit. I had a wonderful time, and a lovely trip. Darcy, our lovely Field Spaniel won Winners's Dog at 6 of the shows, and took Best of Breed at 3 of them. He is now sitting on the dreaded 9 points.

Not to be outdone, Arden took Best Canadian Bred in Breed, and Winner's Dog for 2 consecutive shows (he was only entered at Barrie). He is now sitting on 4 pts, and is on a role.

Although I didn't attend the Waukesha shows in America, Darcy was well looked after. His breeder Peter Archer brought him down with the family, and took care of him for the week. The day before the show, Shula Shipton took Darcy out into the field for a training session for Field Spaniels. Although Darcy was in a naughty mood, he showed his instinct well, and Shula was able to teach him a thing or two. The first lesson he learned was not to mess around with Shula!

The next day, proving once again that Field Spaniels can be worked in the field one day, and shown the next, Darcy was wonderfully handeled in the ring by Norm Fargo.Norm took him to RWD in an entry of 39 Field Spaniels. WELL DONE! Also worth mentioning, Darcy's mom, Ripley, took Best of Oppisite Sex on Sunday.

Darcy had a nice relaxing week at home before he started his intensive field training. He will return from this on the 7th of September, just in time for the Save the Children Show in Richmond (again, worked one day, shown the next.). He has shown such promise in the field, that he has already been invited by two seperate hunt groups, to aid in their goose hunting next month. It will certainly be a nice training experience for him.
