JUNIOR HANDLING
Darcy has been lucky to have been involved in the life of two very special girls who have since shown him in Junior Handling.
Grace and Darcy
Grace Kofron has grown up with Curly Coated Retrievers bred by her mom Jen Kofron of Sun Devil Curlies. Grace has co-owned and shown her mom's Curlies succesfully in the show ring, the Junior Handler's ring, and even in the field.
Grace currently co-owns Darcy, along with myself and Jeff Zachow. She has won several Junior Handler classes in the US with Darcy, and continues to compete with him.
Just like with Elizabeth, Darcy has really taken a shine to Grace and has more fun than should be allowed in the ring while being shown by her.
Elizabeth White of Ottawa, Canada was the first Junior Handler to ever show Darcy. Elizabeth was not from any show home, her parents did not breed dogs, and in fact Elizabeth had never owned a dog before in her life. But she was truly in love with dogs of all kinds. Her free time was often spent walking many dogs for hours on end free of charge, no matter the weather, and no matter the temperment of the dog. She had a gift with even the most foul tempered of dogs, in short she was a natural.
Elizabeth and Darcy shared a special bond from day 1, she would often come around to see how Darcy was doing, or take him around to friends and family. He in turn would always know when she was about to show up, long before Elizabeth came up the walkway.
Eventually I asked Elizabeth about showing Darcy in Junior Handling up in Canada (you are not required to own a dog with the CKC to show it in Juniors and it's free). Despite being very shy in public, Elizabeth took the plunge and did VERY well. To this day I'm extreemley proud of her.
Sadly Elizabeth and Darcy have since been seperated. But I know he misses her a lot.
